OPITO has revised its Training Standards for HLO qualifications.
The document HELIDECK OPERATIONS INITIAL TRAINING (HOIT) Standard rev. 0 Amendment 2 outlines the new standards for HLO certification.
In addition to holding a Dangerous Goods Certificate and a Radio Operator’s Certificate of Competence (ROCC), the prospective Helicopter Landing Officer now has to complete:
On completion of these 2 courses, the candidate can be certified as a HLO - in accordance with OPITO standard requirements, as per the requirement of IOGP Report 690.
Flight Safety can recommend a CAA Certified online course for the Dangerous Goods Certificate and a CAA certified Aeronautical Radio Telephony trainer for VHF Radio.
When clients have a requirement for multiple HLO/HDA accreditations, in a manner that would better suit the logistical constraints of those working in the aviation industry and at the same time reduce the costs associated with organising offshore training courses, the Flight Safety Group can provide an on-site Trainer to conduct the hands on, demonstrative education of Heli Refuelling, Helideck Firefighting and HLO/HDA practical course components, onboard the duty holder’s vessel/rig – utilising their own equipment and familiarity of own helicopter types. This alternative method reduces costs and time away from site for personnel.
Flight Safety now offers online courses that are OPITO equivalent, covering all aspects of the required Helideck Operations Initial Training and Helicopter Emergency Response Training.
The Combined HOIT and HERTL courses cover:
