Helicopter Emergency Response
(HERTL and HERTM) Training

ONLINE - HERTL - Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader Course

ONLINE - HERTM - Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Course

The HERT courses, together with the HOIT course, are a prerequisite for the certification of the HLO and HDA, under the latest OPITO Training Standards.

HOIT, HERTM and HERTL may now be completed ONLINE

Once a candidate has completed one of these combined courses, he/she will be certified as either a HLO or a HDA.

For crew members who have valid HERTM certificates that are soon to expire, the 2-day HERTM Refresher course may be completed to be re-certified for 24 months.
The HERTM Refresher course is also available ONLINE.

The aim and objectives of the HERT Training are to equip the HLO and HDA, who will act as an Emergency Team Leader or Emergency Team Member, when required, with the knowledge, understanding and skills to perform the role of the emergency team member in any helideck or helicopter emergency during take-off or landing.

Who should attend this course?

Any person appointed or interested in being appointed to the role of eithe HLO or HDA.
This course is a mandatory precursor, in conjunction with the Helideck Operations Initial Training (HOIT) for both HLO and HDA, before any candidate can be directed into one of these disciplines.

What are the benefits for attendees?

  • The ability for the HLO or HDA to respond quickly and efficiently to any emergency, including both fire-fighting and non fire-fighting, during take-off and landing of the helicopter on the helideck.
  • Increased safety levels of all helideck operations.
  • Enhanced reputation and minimised exposure to risk for the operating company.

What does the course cover?

This course, which is OPITO equivalent, will provide the prospective HLO and HDA with a comprehensive and in-depth insight into emergency response pre-planning and preparedness; required actions for different emergency scenarios and the importance of working as a team.

More specifically, the course includes but is not limited to:

Module 1: Helicopter Emergency Response Preparedness
